Hi

I have a 1930's Bungalow and considering changing a window into sliding door and increasing the amount of glass compared to bricks to open the view of the garden.

I am trying to get an idea of indictive costs before I commit costs for structural engineers etc.

There is an existing lintel for the window.

Window frame is W95.6 inch / H 55.6 inch

Wall W136.8 inch H 108.5 inches

Thanks !

If you have a lintel already, and you're replacing a pvc window with a door the same width, then you can reuse the lintel.

It's just a case of removing the brick below the window following the same line down as the window opening.

It's a relatively simple job, the main cost will be the door, and it's very diyable. Technically I think you'll need either a fensa fitter or BCO signoff, but there must be 1000s of doors fitted in this situation which don't have either if you want to live dangerously

You say the wall is 136.8 inches long? Is this outside wall - outside wall i.e. about two and a bit bricks each side of the window?

It may be difficult finding an engineer that works in lbs/square inch.

Hi

Sorry it's inside wall 136.8inches and external wall is 198.8 inches. Yes it's about 2 and half bricks each side of the window. To avoid confusion I've kept to inches.
