Hi

I am about to build a garage, and the overall width, wall to wall, is about 5.50 metres.

I have an RSJ which is 5200 X 200 X 135 mm.

Fitted in position, a pulley would be used for hoisting, for example an engine.

I am guessing that a substantial brick pier at either end would be sufficient.

Any advice or suggestions, please ?.

Thank you.

I have only used an rsj once & that was to hold up the upper floor when knocking through 2 rooms. Building regs at that time demanded a 12" x 9" brick pillar at both ends. I would have thought something like that would be more than ample in your case.

Okay, Thank you. I will make at least 12" X 12".
