RTS turn off

I was contacted since 3 years ago on a regular basis about changing the meter. So, they did contact in advance of the switch off. They may not necessarily have to tell you the exact details for the change because it would just create confusion for most people.
So was I. They were pressing me for ages.
This is the worrying bit, as they can say hand on heart you refused to have one fitted. You're not on your own, I also refused, until I got solar, and it was to my benefit to have one fitted. Asked for it early Sept 2023 got it late Jan 2024 that is a long time to be without heating.

For me, it would not be a huge problem, moving the supply to a fuse box, but for the normal man in the street that would be a problem, and even for the electrician now it has been made clear they can't pull the DNO fuse, unless isolator fitted he often can't officially do anything.

So what we are looking at is the old and infirm who have not a clue what is going on, until their heating fails.

Those of a suspicious or cynical nature might wonder if there was a bit of "**** him - he can wait, after we offered and he told us to do one." :sneaky:

I would not think recorded, as to when asked, part of the problem was the guys fitting the solar, had used the board reserved for the DNO, so had to return and move the mini CU out of the way. But my point is, one can't simply say I need a smart meter now, and so get it installed by this time next week.

Having a new system fitted now, gives time to find this or that does not work right, and be fixed before winter, but September any errors will likely result in someone getting cold.

Likely, what they were doing was - set a defined switch off date, before the valve were anticipated to actually fail, rather than have them suddenly fail without warning, and the service suddenly stop.

Do you think they are actually telling the truth about the fact that they have no spare valves left on their shelves?

Who knows? The likelihood is, that they know they can save funds, by turning the little used service off.

Indeed so. As I've said, if they wanted to continue with their broadcast service, I'm sure they would find the money needed to replace the entire transmitter.

Seems more economical to replace the entire valve with a china unit.
