What is the state of play these days with cable in wall's?

can it still be buried in plaster/filler or does it now require installation in conduit?

Question is for both 1.5mm lightning and 2.5mm ring mains.

thanks!

At this moment in time you can still install to the 16th edition of the regs. This means that as long as the cables are installed in the appropriate safe zones then no additional mech protection is required.
When we have to design to the 17th edition, the cables installed within the safe zones will need to be RCD protected (including lights etc) unless they are protected by a metal conduit, earthed sheath, trunking etc or be burried greater than 50mm.
