I think people who dont live in a big city would be shocked at some of the areas.

At the moment we have the bin strike and they show on the news bags thrown all over the place, it was like that before the strikes.

There used to be something called "No recourse to public funds" attached to most visas.

It meant that if you are here on a work or student visa then you can't claim benefits or get social housing.

I'm not up to date, but a quick Google shows it seems to be true still.

As a Home Office minister said in 2019, it is longstanding government policy that migrants should not be entitled to claim benefits until they have been granted indefinite leave to remain, “reflecting the strength of their connection to the UK”. Ministers typically argue that NRPF rules are important to prevent migrants becoming a burden on the taxpayer, to promote integration, and to sustain public support for immigration.

Opponents say NRPF creates destitution, particularly for minority groups such as Black women, and shifts responsibility for dealing with the consequences to local government.

MPs have held several debates on NRPF in recent years, including in May 2023 and May 2024. Another is scheduled for 11 June 2025.

I think there used to be a rule or law saying a mosque couldn't be built within a certain distance of another one, must have been ditched if it was true.

Check if your immigration status lets you get benefits and help with housing

Check if you’re allowed to claim public funds. Check what counts as public funds, and what else you might be able to claim.
