Russell Hobbs self cleaning issue

I was wondering if anyone had experienced a problem with the self-cleaning operation of a Russell Hobbs iron. When pressing the self-cleaning button, the full tank of water in the iron is meant to leave the iron through holes in the iron plate, along with steam. Very little water is leaving my iron and the holes in the plate don't appear to be blocked. Is this a common issue?
