Hi there :)

I'm in the process of buying my first mitre saw. It is for DIY use eg: fitting wood floor, skirting board, architrave, decking and building a shed etc.

I don't want to spend a furtune but I want a sliding mitre saw capable of fairly large cuts. I have my eye on this one which has a good max cut size and is the most I'd want to spend:

I was just wondering how this compares to the likes of Erbauer (Screwfix brand) and MacAllister (B&Q brand). Is it worth the extra £100+? Will I notice a difference in quality? The 2 year guarantee with Ryobi is also comforting.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi big-all,

I bought the Ryobi. It seems good so far although I've not done any mitres as yet. Certainly feels a much better product than the B&Q Pro Line mitre saw I was borrowing.

Cheers :)

great enjoy
and please report back so my recomendations can be as accurate as possible from the maximum information :D :D ;)

Hello again.

Well, all was well until earlier this afternoon. I took some time off to work on fitting our floor and while cutting a plank the saw went boooom!

There was a few sparks, a blue flash, some smoke and then the thing wouldn't stop, the disc just kept on spinning at full speed. The only way to stop it was to unplug.

So now I need a new one but I think I'll opt for something else this time.

I was looking at the Dewalt 707 which is a bit smaller than I'd originally wanted. Any thoughts? How does it manage to cut 270mm lengths when it doesn't slide?

Thanks :)
