salus RXRT505 receiver

Hi, I am trying to install this receiver but I have hit a problem.
The live and neutral wires are ok but I have a third wire that I do not know what to do with.

I have attached some photos, I hope somebody can help me.

Them pictures are far to large to make anything out!
Salus Receiver, requires a Live and neutral supply, then from the boiler a switch live and a live, that are normally linked at the boiler for a inserted control.
So are you replacing an older controller that had 3 cores or is the extra cable an earth?
