Hi
We fitted a new s series salus room thermostat yesterday as the old was a dial that was a bit dodgy. Initially had trouble fitting the new one as we wired up according to instructions but it kept blowing the fuse on the power to the boiler and program clock. Eventually sorted it by ringing the electrician who advised not to conect the blue wire just the red and yellow one.
anyway once boiler and clock stayed on we then treid to get heating to kick in but despite turning up the thermostat the boiler didnt fire up. we gave up and went to bed! this morning heating has come on - great. Now this evening the thermostat is set to 24'c, and the room stat is saying 21'c BUT the boiler has not cut in and i have tried putting the temp to 28'c but still nothing. every so often the boiler fires up but i think thats more to do with the hot water.
can someone advise on whether we need plumber to look at boiler or we just got faulty thermostat?? have we messed up on the fitting?
our boiler is a glow worm, 2yrs old.
thanks in advance.

Even if the 'stat was in working order when it first came out of it's box, if was wired incorrectly so it drew enough current to pop a fuse a few times, there's a pretty good chance it is now goosed.

The thermostat's internal switching is usually only rated to carry about 3 Amps. That's more than enough to run most boilers, but it sounds like you had wired it as a dead short between live and neutral. That means it would have been handling very high currents - more than enough to damage the thermostat.

ok thanks for that info. Not good news then!
I hadn't touched any of the wiring to the boiler just changed the thermostats so didn't know if that was the problem?? Instructions not clear and we did blow the 3amp fuse to the boiler and timer!

another thermostat maybe then? going to get electrician to check it all and ring salus.

Than you.
If it is now dudd would it not work at all??it does click & work up to about 21 but cuts out at this even set temp higher. it fired boiler this morning but below 21 so i am seeing what happens!

ok the test i did this morning - set temp for 24'c stat clicked & boiler fired up, stayed on all the time but we were absolutely boiling so turned stat down to 22'c (which was the registered room temp) boiler went off. Now to test it i waited a few mins then turned stat back up to 24'c but this time it has not 'clicked' and the boiler not on. Checked all the timers and they not due to go off for another hour.

why work sometimes initially then not again????
