How do I even start to get new password if I can't get pass screen lock.

Generally it's holding one of the physical buttons down when powering on to access reset options. Depends on what operating system and version it uses.

Do you have data on it which you want to keep?

Are we talking about windows? if so which version?
And if so it can be bypassed to let you back in.
