I'd ring TomTom first - They are very helpful.
I had exactly the same symptoms a few months ago ( device failing to read the map from the card) and they sorted me out.

has the card been accidentally nudged? take it out and push back. The device takes a long time to reset itself if you take the card out, so put it aside (with the cable charging it) and have a look in an hour or so
