Hi All,

I recently had a door dipped and I have repainted it.

I used Leyland oil based primer and then 2 coats of Leyland Satinwood.

I painted in the garage (where it's obviously cooler and moister than the house) and after about 4 weeks if it sitting round in the garage finally got round to bringing it into the house to hang it.

I have noticed that the paint is still very soft - you can scratch off the top layers with a fingernail.

It also still smells very 'painty'.

My thoughts are that it just hasn't been warm enough to dry in the garage. I am hoping it will dry out now it's in a house with the CH on.

Anyone seen a similar issue? Took me bl**dy ages to prep it all and paint it - don't fancy redoing it.

Ta!

Yes it's the damp atmosphere, moisture trapped during painting and poor drying conditions. Even painting indoors during damp weather takes an age to dry I try to avoid it if possible. All you can do is put it in a well heated room and wait and see I'm afraid.

Also be careful that the door doesnt start to turn yellow. If its been dipped in caustic this can cause this and it may need a sealer like Zinnser BIN 123 prior to repainting.
