My combi boiler is 7 years old. Now, in summer the pilot light goes out when I want hot water.
The britiish gas guy said it was a low pressure problem, and could be the 'nuli flow valve'?
if not he said it would be a 'scaled heater exchange' and said that I would have to change the boiler (at my expence)

Has anyone else had this problem/answers and got somebody else to fix the problem perhaps ??

Tell us the boiler make and model no.

The britiish gas guy said it was a low pressure problem

Does he mean the system pressure (which should be between 1.0 and 1.5 Bar on the pressure gauge or the pressure from the hot tap?

and could be the 'nuli flow valve'

know idea what he's talking about here????

Does the boiler sound like a kettle abouit to boil?

Some heat exchangers are cheap - I recently changed the main heat exchanger in an Ariston combi - parts £70 plus a couple of hours labour.

hi,

my wife was in at the time

he said 'poor water presssure' - we do have 'low pressure' problems with the shower in the loft at peak times - water board mad said 'pressure coming to house is okay (within limits)

null flow valve

WE NEED to know what the boilers IS. Puma?
Occasionally relevant - are you in a really hard water area?

Lets guess its a Puma!

Its 7 years old!

The pilot goes out with the o/h stat when it overheats!

The null flow valve is probably a new name meaning the DHW cold flow liniter.

The BG fellow clearly does not know how to diagnose the fault properly. When you have decided what make of boiler you have you could make a complaint that they have not fixed your boiler.

Whatever the problem I could fix it so why shouldn't BG ???

hi,

Apparently the BG guy said the hot water pressure was low .
We do have low water pressure problems with the shower in the loft.

We do live in a hard water area . The plumber who fitted it fitted a Liff Limefighter on the input cold water pipe- so I presumed that we were protected from limescale.

Our boiler is a Potterton combi 80 - fitted just less than 7 years ago

Any suggestions

thanks

We were right then! A Combi 80 is another name for a Puma!

Never assume that a water conditioner has "worked".

YOur hot water flow switch is probably sticking. Open the front of the boiler so you can see the printed circuit board. When the tap is on there will be a red led beamin away. It should go out when the tap is turned off, but yours probably doesn't do so reliably.

New flow switch, fitted, probably under £100.
