I feel bad asking such a basic question but I've got myself a bit confused what fixings to use on my newbuild plasterboard walls (no wooden beams, I forget the proper name but it's thickish plasterboard with wimpy metal runners).

I want to hang guitars on the walls; the hangers expect two 6mm screws which are not supplied. I'm not sure if bog standard rawlplugs are acceptable here, or if I need an expansion/anchor fitting. Looking on Screwfix and B&Q (UK) it seems both are used but I want to make sure!

I also see these "self-drive" fittings where you screw the plug into the wall instead of drilling, are they a good option? In fact there's rather a bewildering array of different fixing types!

Thanks. The issue I've got is the thing I want to mount is about 1cm thick, i.e. for a 50mm anchor they recommend a 70mm screw. These things look to come as sets and since I'd prefer a metal one. They don't make it obvious what bolts to buy!

You can use any screw with the nylon plug, only the metal require fixed dia screw.
