I recently rubbed off some splashes frm the back of my stainless steel cooker in circular motions with the rough side of a normal green sponge, now there is a horrid swirly pattern of fine scratches all over it! Can someone help please!

You can get a rubbing block for cleaning up stainless steel, it removes small scratches.

I used to use them on SS fascias for fire alarm panels, takes a bit of rubbing but does work.
Do not use any liquid cleaners like jif etc, they will only make it worse.

Google brings up these although you may be able to get them elsewhere too.
