I am about to lay ceramic tiles. Most of the area is newly built (last year) extension with a very level screed floor. Where the extension meets the old house the old floor had cracked accross what was the old front door/porch opening, and lifted at the crack about 5 -10mm. I have chiselled this away to leave a trench about 1 metre long , 10cm wide and 5 cm deep. This I need to fill to produce a more level surface to lay my tiles on.
I already have a bag of self levelling compound, and a bag of readymix concrete. Should I mix a new screed, use the concrete as it is or the compound?
I have never done this before. Any advice gretefully received!
Oh, the other thing is the old floor has really stubborn vinyl tile glue - some of which I have scraped off but what remains is impossible to shift. I bought a floor glue solvent but it had no effect whatsoever!
