sealing and fixing to aircrete blocks

Hi guys, I've built small wall (1x1m)out of aircrete blocks on my front steps, I'm going to clad of with wood and had a couple of queries if anyone can help please?

Should I treat the blocks with anything before cladding? I have masonry paint and stormdry left over from other projects I could use if appropriate.

Could you also recommend what fixings to use? Would a concrete screw suffice or is aircrete much too soft?

Helical nails to fit the battens.

But if the wall may wobble when hammered, normal brown plugs and screws.

Multi Monty screws don't grip well and if you go too tight, they break the thread and come loose.
