Sealing Around Bifold Doors

Hi,

We've had some Bifold Doors poorly fit in a rear extension. Internally, there are gaps all round between the profile and the plasterboard and floor of varying widths up to about 10mm in places. As a result, we're losing a load of heat around them and so heating the house is costing a fortune! I'm looking for some advice on the best way to seal around these doors in a way that will block out as much of the draught as possible while remaining relatively low profile.

Where is the draught comming from?

How far forward in the reveals has the door been placed? Do they even touch the cavity closer?

The draught is coming from the gaps around the profile.

The doors have been placed flush with the outside of the reveals. Can't comment on whether or not they touch the cavity closer as I don't know what that is!

You absolutely need to get the installer back or seek another opinion.

Installing a door totally flush is an incredibly difficult detail to get right, regardless of draughts.

You have risk of a major cold bridge that will eventually mould if it is not done correctly.

Thanks, I'll get in touch with them ASAP. In case that they refuse to do anything (the project has had a history of contractors not taking responsibility!) is there anything I can do to help?

Take some more photos of the outside, show where it is positioned. Show how big the gaps are around the frame.

Find you who manufacturers the door and get their technical specs for installation.

Find out how the opening is made, you might not have cavity walls at all and so the install doesn't need to worry about cavities.

Looks like they had to cut back the plaster board to fit the doors to the correct depth.
Should had plaster boarded the revels after the doors were fitted.

Would have expected fitters to make good, only done half a job.

Just squirt some foam in. Then make good with filler or a metal edge bead as necessary.
