Sorry this is quite a small point but I wonder if one of the experts out there can help me get it right. I want to insulate an internal wall. Thermal boards would be nice but not readily available where I live so I plan to put up battens, then insulation material (polystyrene board or Wickes insulation slab), then cover with a vapour barrier, then plasterboard, in that order. Can anyone clarify how I fix the vapour barrier? I believe it should be stapled in place but that would seem not to be very airtight and might let air in, resulting in condensation on the wall. Is there another sealing method, perhaps using some kind of tape?
Any advice greatly appreciated? Thanks. Reg.

Staples are fine, as they go into the batten, thus not creating any holes. If you want to be overly cautious you can simply tape over the staples with silver tape, (aluminium tape not duct tape) Any edges can be sealed by sticking down some wide double sided tape and pressing the polythene against it.

Of course the easy way is to just use foil backed plasterboard ;)

try one of the large insulation companies encon/kingspan site they might give you some ideas

Thanks for those replies Deluks and Jeepman. Both very helpful. Thanks for taking the time. All the best, Reg
