Hypothetical question

Would a Gas safe engineer fit a secondhand boiler supplied by the customer, just wondering as there are always ones for sale on ebay and too me this seems a recipe for disaster

i wouldn't, it's not worth the hassle plus why would you replace a boiler unless it's knackered

I've sold a few boilers on Ebay over the years following system conversions, etc. Never been asked to fit used though. As said, not really worth the aggro.

Usually surprised how much some people pay for used boilers. Last one I sold was an Icos for about £200. Don't know how I sleep at night!

you sold a Icos

have you no shame

The thing was actually working immediately before I pulled it off the wall. One lady owner and full service history - had been serviced every year by BG. I kid you not. Maybe this boosted it's value. Not a bad price for something I considered hoying into the skip. Had quite a few bidders.

Sold all sorts of unlikely tat over the years. My shed's like Daley's lockup.

Yes, you're right. No shame.

I would fit a reasonable make used boiler for someone but it would need to be paid for in advance and there would be extra charges if it needed repair.

I did that with a Vaillant recently and the gas valve was jammed! Very luckily I was able to free it so that it worked!

No.

Would be wanting to pay a gas engineer who has just spent his time
fitting a boiler to tell you it doesn't work?

I stay well clear of such customers who are asking for problems.

I sold a working old Profile boiler.

Not because I wanted to sell it but because it was on the third floor and they are heavy to carry down and I would have needed help as the stairs were all newly carpeted.

This scrap metal dealer bought it, not for scrap, but because he wanted to swop it for his non working boiler of the same model.
