Hi,
I live in a really old house and the walls upstairs are constructed of plaster and straw blocks. The trouble I'm having is securely fixing things to these blocks. I've tried wall plugs and other various fixings but they don't seem to work as good as would like. Has anyone got any ideas please?

I had similar problems in my old house which was a c.1890 build. Unfortunately there isn't a very easy fix fot this. There aren't any special plugs which you can just use. If you want to hang anything heavy on these walls your only real chance is if there are any wood joists you might be able to screw into. Failing this there are fillers available at B&Q etc which you can inject into the wall at the area you want to screw into. Other than this unfortunately you may have to accept that you just can't put anything heavy on these internal walls :(
