I disconnected the wiring in the switch without noting where the wires went
I have 3 core & earth coming from tube to switch, and 2 core & earth coming from security light to switch. Switch has a com & a L1.
Can anyone tell me how to wire this back up correctly?

Sounds like one switch, switching both lights?? Or was the security flood never switched before??

i think he is trying to add a "security light" to his existing switch.

tell me. before you touched it, could you turn the flourescent light on at one switch and off at another?

The switch was used for the flourescent tube on & off. The security light had a permanent feed.

Then I would guess at both reds to com, yellow to L1, blue and black joined in term block.

You really should have the flood light via a switch for maintenance. Put a 2 gang one in.

Thanks, I tried wiring up as you have said but the tube is lighting at both ends - not along its full length. I tried another tube but still the same!

If a tube lights both ends, but doesn't strike, you need a new starter
