Im getting myself confused by screw sizes. I have fitted a new element to my oven but the old screws holding the cover in place are corroded. They appear to be flanged screws with a torn head. Approx 12mm long and thread diameter is 6mm. So short and fat.
I just can't find anything of that size and the various type in metric or imperial don't help. Are they size 6 ? Most size 6s are really long
Any help appreciated

6mm is 6mm. No.6 is approx 3.5mm. The length is for the threaded part only, unless countersunk.

Search kays fasteners on ebay which has a wide range, and other suppliers will also come up to give a comparison.

Blup

Thanks for that I will check them out. I think no 12 is around 5.5 to 6mm diameter of thread.
Much appreciated
