Yep you are, you know it's not so bad, your account can say nothing other than your name and be completely private with nobody being able to even search for you but I get the whole paranoia thing. Had some cracking bargains off marketplace and offloaded plenty too, full of idiots obviously, like Gumtree but you know, good and bad in everything, every now and then you hit a good seller and it all works like a charm.

It's actually pretty good at seeing what's happening in your local area and finding out about stuff, actually there's plenty of positive things to be said about FB now I think of it, as well as all the negative.

Yeah, I'm sure there are useful parts to FB. My mate kitted out his new house with furniture and a new (used) kitchen from FB, mainly from WAGs that were upgrading their 2 year old houses to the 'latest trends'.

I'm not too worried about the privacy thing. The original chase/competition to be the top of the friend count list when FB came out just put me off joining entirely. Now, between DIYnot and Pistonheads too much of my time is spent on the internet anyway - which is not too bad when you're on work time - but stuff like FB and the others would just be another time suck which I'm trying to resist.

Just my personal choice, and I'm stubborn. I wouldn't criticise anyone else for using FB or the others.

Never joined Facebook and never will, so I guess I’m stuck with the timewasters on gumtree.

Ebay may shift it. Chuck it on for a 99p start auction, buyer to collect. Maybe shift it and get few quid beer money. Been using Ebay since almost day one. Saved me a fortune over the years, sourced many items I would never have got elsewhere, and rarely have a problem.

I'm a recent joiner of Facebook for exactly that reason. Not interested in conversing with or following any of my mates on there, I can do that face to face but in my local area, plenty of people offer stuff for free. Recently I gave away a pair of rebated internal doors and a new dartboard and yesterday I had my first win - a near new petrol lawn mower!

Not interested in conversing with or following any of my mates on there, I can do that face to face but in my local area, plenty of people offer stuff for free. Local Facebook groups are worth joining - Ive got a few piano pupils through it for my wife.

it’s very handy for local news, even stuff like power cuts

They tend to be private groups so you have to ask to join.

It's good because the local councillor is on it and you can contact her through that to get things sorted. Most common post I've seen on ours so far is 'Virgin internet not working again' and yes, I had to ask to join - the question I had to answer was 'what bus goes past the top of our street'!
