I need to fix a timber flush with this steel but cannot access the back to put a nut on a bolt, how do I fix it on. Apparently the garage motorised mount frame need to fix to this face tia.

Use a tap set to get a threaded hole of 10 or 12mm, then bolt.

Is there a gap between the joist nearest the wall and the wall itself?

I tapped a thread in my garage steel rsj. 6mm if memory servers. Easy job.

Pick a size suitable.

You can fix it to that joist with a suitable spacer instead. It doesn't need to push/pull on the RSJ, it just needs to be firmly attached to something to operate the door
