I think anyone who's managing to live somewhere without breaking the law for 10+ years should generally be allowed automatic citizenship. I think the US laws are stupid and counter productive.

But idiotic or not they're the law. It sucks for them but they can blame all the Trump voters.

This ties in with someone I wonder. They're apparently lifting ~2000 people a day? I wonder what their checks are on each individual (pre being lifted) to determine they're illegal? Someone on a news prog said they're essentially taking a racial profiling approach.
That’s essentially it, they’ve moved from deporting illegal criminals to deporting illegals, to deporting people who work at car washes and look hisspanic

This is where I think a more balanced approach is needed, underpinned by mechanisms that make it much more difficult for people to enter illegally in the first place.

There could be a guy who entered the states illegally 15 years back and, that illegal activity aside, he's a law abiding person. In the intervening years he's constantly worked, married and had a couple of kids.

Kiddies wave dad off to work one morning and boom, he's gone. Wife left wondering where the heck he is.

Why the feck can't countries find a more reasonable balance to this whole thing. Robust measures to keep folk out, robust (but fair) measures to get them out if they find a way in.

This is where it's not a stretch of the imagination to wonder if it's all by design ...

Breaking up families in this way will lead to increased poverty.

If a father is deported who is the breadwinner that leaves possible an American citizen wife and American citizen children that end up needing food stamps and benefits etc.

And the father was probably working hard in the American economy.

Personally I think those people who have worked a number of years, should be given American citizenship, meaning they then pay income tax etc on their work as they are legit.

ICE should focus on tracking down on the criminals, the gang members and get rid of those.

One thing I would add is that most of these undocumented workers are Latinos / Hispanics from central and South America. They have they same culture as a lot of American citizens, it’s very different from small boat arrivals in the U.K.

That's not giving Trump the numbers he desires, so he's going for the low hanging fruit.

Ultimately, the whole issue of immigration globally can't be put on the migrants themselves. It is the abject failure of world leaders and governments over decades that's led to the current sh1tshow. Now they're trying to play catch-up and it might be too little too late.

They're now targeting locations likely to employ undocumented labour and then demanding proof of citizenship. They're not targeting individuals, they're trawling.

This is a change of process and goes against Trump's 'Gangs' narrative. But it's a logical result of Trump's promises. That still doesn't mean that the people rounded up shouldn't have due process to determine if they have the right to be in the US or not.
exactly what the immigration police in this country do and rightly so . They fine the employer thousands of pounds for employing illegals

4.6% of American workers are undocumented.

Given that unemployment is low in USA, those workers are clearly needed.

So what the USA govt should do is make those people legal and then have them work on the cards and pay taxes.

What USA is actually doing is allowing people work illegally and pay them cheap wages - that’s what is wrong.

So why should illegals end up getting the same status as those who jumped through the hoops and followed the legal process spending sometimes over 5 figures in the process.
No wonder Trumps popularity has surged with latino`s /blacks and legal immigrants

US unemployement rate at present is 4.2% so much the same as illegals

Anyone that has lived and worked in a country illegally for 10+ years have been breaking the law for 10+ years.
I support much stronger border defence for the UK.
I support much stronger control over where these people are housed (that do get in illegally) whilst awaiting a decision.
I support a much more efficient processing system.
I support swift deportation for those whose application is not approved.

What I don't support is a broad brush approach to sweeping up presumed illegal migrants and deporting them without due process. Especially in scenarios where they have built a family life.

You might want to live in a country that conducts itself in such a manner, which is of course your prerogative. I don't.

On a linked subject, it's almost ironic we now have riots in Ireland over the alleged rape of a girl by two Romanian boys. Riots that include breaking into peoples homes and setting light to them.

They've obviously forgotten what it feels like to be treated in such a way i.e. no blacks, no dogs, no Irish.

It's a robust CALM approach all of this needs. Something the likes of Trump could vocalise. Funny that he doesn't ...
