I am in the process of enabling myself to send my simple Tax Return online.
It's a minefield knowing how to proceed (there are so many obscure"options" to pick next)
Clearly some-one with a simpler look-out on life needs employing to go through the process!
In the meantime I would be most grateful for clear instructions to enable a PAYE man to inform HMRC of some interest he has acquired, form numbers would be useful and the order they need to be used in.

Thanks b, have just requested "access to Self-Assessment" and am awaiting an activation code.
Glad to hear it's easy after that!

Something else I have to remember to do. It always takes less than 20 mins, 10 of which are trying to login

Ahh, the joys of accountants... filed months ago and payment queued :) one less thing to worry about.

I'm sure accountants all differ but the last (reputable) one I used for a submission to HMRC simply sent my home prepared figures onward, with no useful advice or input, and charged me £100!!
I thought the idea was for them to use their knowledge to save clients money (it's not rocket science)

It is, but as in everything in life there are good and bad, if you use an accountant as a one off, or irregularly you are less likely to get advice on tax reduction, if you retain their services on a monthly basis, then the accountants get to understand your business and you form a professional relationship whereby it is much more in their interests to keep the client happy (And paying!)

Are you saying that if you just use an accountant occasionally you are not going to get proper financial advice.
If so, I don't think many accountants will feel too happy at the thought!

Depends what you mean by proper, a reputable one will check over your figures and make sure they're believable before filing As a minimum.. all the way up to Amazon / Google / Facebook accountants (tax specialists)
