Is a sensor switch ok inside a WC or en suite room? I'm referring to the type where you wave your hand in front of it to activate lights.

Thanks for any advice.

In a WC no problem.
In en suite with bath/shower must comply to zonal areas.
I assume its a motion sensor you are asking about, you can buy them so they are IP rated and splash proof and not only wall mounted but ceiling mounted too, which could well help regarding the zones.
But if not set right or not over sensitive, could find yourself sat on the toilet reading the Daily Mail in the dark
