you keep voting for this Tory govt that defunds the police and criminal justice system.....so apparently you want understaffed prisons rife with drugs.

The solution is straight forward. Invest and spend more on the police and prisons and not outsource it all. Have a well funded criminal justice system that puts away criminals rather than one where prison are overflowing and sentences have to reflect the realities on the ground.

If they deported all the foreign criminals we would then have room for our home grown scum. Even if UK citizens locked up abroad were sent back as a retaliation, we would still be better off for cell room.

Such a silly statement. So the foreign Government which we will need to have an agreement will, should take back its ciminals?

So for example if the sentence is 10 years but in the country they are going to it's 5 years - who will pay for the difference in costs? What happens when the sentence in the UK is less than that in the other country? Do they serve the UK sentence or the applicable sentence in the person home country.

Do they still get probation on the same terms?

They should be pardoned and then deported, all it will cost is a 'plane ticket (being simplistic) which is a damn sight cheaper than mollycoddling them for the remainder of their sentence. Or, as previously mentioned, execution would clear some of the deadwood (pun intended).

Not as high as the cuts to the Prison Service. You also failed to mention how many of our criminals will need to be repatriated.
