Sorry if this is in the wrong place but can anyone help? My freeview box has suddenly started what I can only call cutting in and out. The red light comes on for several (approx 10, counting) seconds, then the green (4 seconds), and it just keeps on doing it. I have disconnected and reconnected the scart lead, but even with that disconnected it still does it. I now have it disconnected because I can't stand the chopping and changing on my television, so I am watching tv in analogue.

The box is a Digihome DV940BN from Argos, and is just over 2 years old.

Could it be something to do with who provides the signal, where it is coming from? My signal comes from Bluebell Hill transmitter in Kent.

I don't understand very much about this sort of thing so if anyone does know the answer please make it simple! Thanks.

have you tried turning it on and off localy or at the mains!!!

have tried all the connections that you can from the ariel down

are the pictures on any tellies in the house a bit fuzzier than usual!!

I have noted mine has of late needed to update. And when my daughter gets a bee in her bonnet over note leaving things on stand-by it does try doing it during the day.
I would like to throttle that bloke on the TV advert. My TV uses 1W on standby like most modern equipment against 115W while watching.
The only odd one is sky box and because it has to power LNB it uses about 10W. But she doesn't turn that off as piped to all bed rooms and she would not be able to watch in bed.
Try manually setting it to update. That may cure problem.

Thanks for your comments, chaps. Last night I disconnected the whole thing and watched tv in analogue. Missed Dr Who!

Today I have put it all back together and it's working! Perhaps the signal had been faltering.

Gadgets are great - till they go wrong.

Too many dead Daleks inside the box.

Used to be too many dead Native American Indians (aka Redskins ) that messed up the 405 line black and white TVs of my youth....

The BBC recently changed some transmitting parameters, which affected some Freeview receivers that do not meet the Freeview specification. The main symptom was that the box would switch off when a BBC channel was selected. The BBC have altered their settings to accommodate this incompatibility but you may need to buy a fully compliant Freeview receiver in the future.

If it is flashing red & green it could just be attempting an update.

If not, then sometimes these boxes lock out. Isolating & reconnecting the supply usually cures the problem.
