Sewage smell from kitchen sink (Ed.)

I'm not questioning as I haven't investigated further yet, I just asking about the vent. I'm just hoping it's a cracked mortar issue.

but....
The gases should be escaping from the vent surely ?

If you want to attempt to get to the bottom of the issue, you need to accept there will some effort involved. There is plenty of room, you may need to lift some of those paving slabs to do a full investigation, unfortunately you cant make an omelette without breaking eggs.

Alternatively, if there is access available to the drain taking the stack from a nearby Manhole, get someone with a CCTV camera to survey the pipework and report on tis condition.

I had the same problem with a bathroom sink.
Turned out the trap was clogged with hair although it was draining perfectly.
After cleaning the trap the smell disappeared.
Something to try before more invasive surgery.

I could check the kitchen sink trap but the smell def comes from outside in the drain area too when upstairs bathroom water drained.

Lift up the nearest manhole and start checking from there.

Yes I'll do that thanks. I had an issue about 20 years ago with the drains blocking and borrowed some drain rods. If it looks blocked i'll invest in some. Wouldn't do any harm to own a set.

Not unusual for a drain to smell.
My mum used to pour bleach in it every other day.

It's intermettent. Since my last post the smell stopped. I thought great, it must have been temporary. And now it's back since the weather has hot ted up. Doesn't make sense. Still haven't got round to lifting the drain cover as so many other jobs.

I have sealed it with CT1 Adhesive & Sealant and yet the smell still emanates from it :(
