I have a very old electric Sew-Tric sewing machine which is a great machine which I want to keep hold off.
Unfortunately when i now plug it in the motor starts to run very fast straight away with having touched the foot pedal.

I have taken the foot pedal apart and cant see any obvious faults.

Does anyone think it could be the resistor?
If so can anyone tell me where I could get one from.
It is a orange coloured tube shape about 3cm long and has
CP-C 0.1 (M) 600 printed on it.

I have a photo of it if any wants to see it.

Thanks [/url]

Does it still run with the foot switch disconnected? Cannot see your pic.

I could not upload the photo as I did not know how Sorry.

I have not tried with the foot pedal disconnected as there wires are soldered on to the resistor.

I have put a continuity tester accross the restistor and it buzzes no matter where I move the arm that goes across the wire.

You need to get(borrow) a multi-meter. set to ohms and try across resistor, the reading should vary with moving the arm.

Great now all fixed, thank god for the internet.
I read somewhere when I searched my problem on google that just take the Orange thingy (which turned out to be a supressor) out and it will work fine.

All it does is to stop interference when your watching TV or listening to the radio!

Neighbours might get a bit annoyed when they keep having to call out a TV repair man!
