I am wanting to install a shaver socket and extractor fan in my new ensuite, the ceiling currently has 4 downlighters with are all powered by 12v transformers, do i get the feed from the first downlighter to the extractor and then from the extractor to the shaver socket. I know this work is notifiable, i have a basic knowledge of electrics just wondered if i was capable or best left to a pro

surely that would only provide you with 12 volts to fan and shaver?

I think you'd be best calling a local sparky in for advice.

what i meant was, do i take the supply from the 240v cable that supplies the first downlighter by the means of a junction box

That will only provide power when the lights are on.

You will also need a permanent live to allow the fan to run on after the lights go out. Also you will probably need the shaver socket always powered up - you'll never charge the toothbrush otherwise!
