If your are having an outward swinging gate or shed door with a reversble latch rimlock, would there still be some form of door stop / rebate?

You can add a rebate into the design of the gate posts it's just a length of timber nailed or screwed, shed doors normally rest against the frame.

Blup

you always need a stop off some sort otherwise the door and or gate will act as a leaver and try and pull the hinge off
it also helps to line the door up and in case off a curve developing gives you something to push against to hold the curve in check
aaannnddd it removes the gap to look through or for draughts and rain to get driven through

OK thank you both, so my question is, with a stop added, what happens about the surface mounted rimlock and keep? Is it just a case of cutting away some of the door stop for the keep to be put into position? So this is for a door that opens outward with a rimlock with a latch that reverses.

easier to knock in a wooden block about 4ft up then fix lock ---lock door then fix the stop
remember your likely to have cladding and frame all around the door opening
also your lock will be on the back face off the door on the frame or a rail so the bolt off the lock may line up with the back face or need a keep in the frame

For opening-out doors with a rimlock, you can get a keep with an extra-long tongue to guide the latch into place.

Your lock might already have one.

Otherwise you can fabricate a piece of metal sheet

Can you post a pic?
