short circuit?? but how???

I have just installed insulated plasterboard by dot and dab.

The process required simply disconnecting and reconnecting two sockets but when I turned power back on the mcb tripped. Disconnected sockets again but mcb still trips!

No screws or nails used at this point....what have i done wrong?!?!?

Have you checked to see if you have screwed though a cable when you screwed the sockets back in place , you might of nicked a wire behind the socket. Other than that it will need someone to have a look at and test the circuit, determine the fault, then start narrowing it down by disconnecting parts of the circuit.

Are you sure it is these sockets that are causing the issue?
You will now need to investigate further and very likely require to do an insulation resistance test!

Did you bring the boxes forward, or fit deeper ones?

Thanks for the comments. I had put in new drywall boxes, forward from previous position

Inspected wires that I can see, and nothing obviously damaged. Beginning to think that something else is responsible as suggested.

Time to call in the pro?

Did you remove the old metal back boxes then? Did you gain slack on the cables to bring the cables sheath into the new box?

Removed metal box, Dropped the new boxes by an inch and there was just enough slack..

Well if you can see the cable sheaths, and they come into your new boxes, any damage to terminations should be visible.

Did you have to pull any up from the floor? Did you 'wrench' at them?

I can see quite a lot of the cable and no damage viable. I did pull up from the floor, not too hard, but in the absence of any other cause maybe this is it. Is it easy to damage cable like this without visible damage?

can you post a pic of the backs of the sockets showing the connections?

is it a wooden, ground, floor, with a space underneath where rodents might have lived?

There may have been a junction box under the floor and pulling the cable may have disturbed connections in that box.
