I've got a washing machine that's emptying in to some 40mm solvent-weld waste pipe, but there's no sink or anything else. I could just dangle the washing machine waste pipe into the top but I'd rather put a nozzle on it and screw it in.

It's a fairly short waste pipe that is open outside so I don't think I need to worry about airflow, ideally I could just seal it apart from the washing machine nozzle.

But I can't find anything to connect a nozzle to 40mm waste pipe, not without a sink trap attached too, but there's no sink and I don't think it needs a trap.

Am I missing a trick, or should I just let it dangle into an open pipe?

You're not looking hard enough.

But you will need a trap of some sort.

Usual practice is to fit a standpipe on the end of the waste pipe, then hook the hose into the top. Hose should be fitted with one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Washing-Machine-Dishwasher-Drain-Hose-Crook-Clip-Spiral-/160896081054

That's one thing i can't stand is open top standpipes.
You can always fit one of these.
