Should I remove blowtorch from gas canister when not in use?

Going to use this for the first time and not sure if it’s best to completely disconnect or just turn the dial on the blowtorch to off when storing.

Personally, I’d disconnect it.

Assuming the canister has a self sealing valve to allow the blow torch to be removed I remove and then check for any leakage from the valve in the canister..

The blow torch cannot be removed from gas canisters that are classed as pierceable such as this

I take my Rothenberg torch off the canister at home, but it doesn't get a lot of use.

The same torch at work gets left on as we use it quite frequently (good old steel fasteners into aluminium casings, a daily fight!).

I have one Rothenburger on a blue butane/propane and another on Mapp gas.....I’m too idle to disconnect the torches but I don’t think they leak either.
Or at least, I can’t smell anything and they’re never empty.
Wish I could say the same about Machine Marts argon/CO2 cylinders.....bought a few for stock, didn’t connect any of them and after a year or so they were all empty.
Hobbyweld for me now!

Got a Rothenburger and always disconnect it. Last time used was about 18 months ago and when I had a shed tidy at the weekend it still feels fairly full. (The gas canister, not the shed! )

I went over to gasless a while back, used to rent a bottle off BOC but it was too much for the use my MIG got.

Ah well, take the canister off then. You can’t do it with those camping gas type cylinders.
