should me pump run

hi . should my heating pump run all the time 'it isn't'.?
can't get my boiler to fire up after changing a rad valve.guess it must be air .drained it a couple of times but still no go . i cant remember if my pump ran all the time or if it came on only when the boiler fired up ...any help ..please its doing my head in.
indirect ..ideal w2000 boiler ..2 valves ..gas
have searched help but it didnt ...is there a way of bleeding and refiling that im missing ? .thanks

pump should be wired in to come on with the boiler and may run for 5 mins after due to the pump overrun cooling the boiler down if one is wired in.
