I am looking at purchasing a property. Both header tanks are connected, should this be. A friend has mentioned about cross contamination from central heating to hot water, if this is the case should I look at getting a quote for making these seperate? Why would these be connected in first place?

They must not be connected in such a way that water can flow from, the central heating to the other.

However some builders (used to) take a supply from the cold water cistern, via a ball cock, to fill the adjacent CH F&E tank. This does not cause contamination.

Since property purchase is usually £120,000 PLUS, then the cost of most plumbing and heating renovations pales into insignificance.

Nevertheless, it can be a good negotiating point, particularly if the seller has no idear what you are talking about!

But the buyer has no idea what he's talking about either!
