showe cabling

just wondering,

with the BS7671 & 17th edition regs (neither of which i am fully familiar with yet)

When contractors fitter our replacement power shower (9.5kw heating element) they had to lay new cabling, this sits laid loose on top of our fibreglass insulation, the cable i believe is 16mm. Should this have been clipped to joists or is it fine just laid on the insulation like that?

i realise this is quite petty, but isnt something i know

I find it hard to believe they used 16mm cable. But if they did, its probably fine run in insulation along its entire length. Overkill.

You'd be surprised. Completely surrounded by insulation 16mm² drops to 42.5A capacity, so borderline for a 10.5kW shower...

But it's bad enough trying to get 10mm² into an isolator - 16mm²? - Good luck!

Exactly, if your intended reference method and cable sizing calculation resulted in a required 16mm² cable then it's time to change the installation reference method, hopefully resulting in a more manageable 10mm² cable.

the length from the cu to the hallway kill switch is thinner than the length used from the kill switch in the hallway to the shower. this is in trunking until it gets buried in the wall.

the length from the kill switch to the shower runs above the insulation.

With everything needing clipping, running in certain places etc, it was more for my own knowledge than getting it corrected (unless there was something severely wrong)
