I'm replacing my 9.5kW electric shower with a 10.5kW. Just wanted to check the electrics. The MCB is a 32A (installed by previous owner) so I know I'll need to up that to 45A. There is no RCD on the circuit at the moment - so that will need added too. The cable is 10mm which I think is OK for the new unit. The cable run is about 17m to the isolator switch but I haven't traced it to see exactly where it's routed. Do I need to check this or should the 10mm cable be OK? Is there anything else I need to check? Thanks.

Does the cable go through any insulation?
If not it should be OK?
As regards RCD protection can you check with your CU's manufacturer if you could fit a 45A SP RCBO?

Also check that you have supplementary bonding.

I take you realise this work is notifiable!

Thanks for the reply. The cable runs through some loft insulation, but only for a couple of meters. Doesn't look like there's any supplementary bonding either. If I replace the shower with another 9.5kW one, I take it there's no need to notify?

CU is MK Sentry 5679s but doesn't look like there would be room to fit an RCBO.

The sentry mcb was the same size as the rcbo, One module

If you can still get one

I think the merlin gerin c60 range may be the same pattern, dont know if they do a 45 a though
