Hi all,

Plumber has cut the shower feed pipes flush with the wall brackets with the connectors on.

Afterwards, I noticed on the instructions for the shower, it says to just proud of the brackets and then the connectors go on at a later stage.

Any chance the manual is wrong? Or get the plumber back?

He's not fitted the shower yet, he may have to cut the pipe back a bit yet but it's no drama.

They will need trimming back a bit further or maybe the pipes will push back before tightening. Anyway, it looks like the job is unfinished. Not unusual to leave the pipes a bit long until final fix.

Just show some trust in your tradesman.
I bet he will be cutting the 15mm pipe back.
Cutting it back flush or just below the fittings face.
The shower WONT fit with the pipe like it is & I'll pretty much guarantee he knows this.
When we're installing a bathroom or whateva, we actually know the job, inside & out. Meaning that I've had customers mention various things....things which end up being a pointless exercise because I've already worked EVERYTHING OUT in my head, as a methodical part of being who I am...
...A exceptional installer with a fantastic eye for finishing detail.
He knows ....next question please

Thanks guys. I did ask for him to cut it ready for it to be installed to which he said it's fine to as is?

Hence why Im wondering what's normally the done thing so I can get him to do it right if needed.

From the manual, it says to leave 10-20mm pipe in front of the bracket. Does this sound about right? So the pipe would end roughly in the middle of the silver connector.

I'd leave it to the fitter. He's the one that needs to get it to fit and be watertight. That being said - the copper would usually be cut flush with the 3/4" silver compression part of the fitting (pic1) that the shrouds and then the shower will be connected to. Ensures the pipe doesn't fowl the filter seals.

Do you think think the manuals wrong then? (Step 4)

If it's 10-20mm proud of the bracket, it would half way up the silver connector part

Looks more like a plumber that can't read to me; the instructions clearly show a compression olive will be fitted, then a screw on decorative nut to which the mixer bar will be attached..
and those pipes do not stick out far enough to permit use of an olive

If the pipes are rigid/don't have enough movement to pull out about 15mm it's going to be a problem

OP, stick your little finger in the end of the pipe and attempt to pull it towards you. Does it move at all?

They rarely are..

You've posted two pics, and the fitting nearest the camera does/doesn't have the silver bit screwed on. Is this a before and after of you having a play about with stuff when your fitter left site?
Just wondering if you forgot to fit the olive to the pipe before you screwed the silver part on, thereby causing the copper pipe to stick out just a bit too much?

I'd be more interested to see a pic of the pipe with a ruler offered up to it as the manual clearly says that the stick out should be between 10 and 20 mm; it definitely looks more than 10, but harder to judge if it's more than 20. Do the pipes move a little if you push *gently* on the open end?

FFS. Leave the guy to do his job.
Stop bloody micromanaging!
If it leaks or doesn't work then it's down to him to sort.

I have at least 3 boxes of these shower brackets on my van at all times, plus a couple of shower PL8s. They're a regular Plumber's fitting and we don't need to read fitting instructions for things we've installed hundreds of times.

Where does it say that in the instructions ?

If the plumber is coming back then he will deal with it. Its only a problem if he's not coming back.

First of all guys, I'm not micromanaging or criticising. Just curious if it's correct or not as it's not what seems to me what the instructions are saying.

Secondly, I have asked for him to cut it ready for it to be installed so he's not coming back to do this.

Thanks. Think you understand the issue the most at the moment.

The pipe on right doesn't really move at all. The left moves a little bit (maybe a few mm's).

The pipe is about 25mm proud of the gold bracket

As mentioned before - If this is the way the copper pipe is with the olive inserted and the 3/4"chrome compression fitting tightened, then it's fine. If anything the pipe on the right will need to be trimmed by a few mm so it's flush to the chrome fitting

As suggested - a manual or instructions are not needed. This is stuff we do without any thought or instructions needed as it very straightforward and only works one way.
