shower goes hot and cold

Hi,we have got a shower that powers up itself.it goes to hot then about 3mins it turns cold for about 2 min then goes hot for a short time then goes cold again for longer.Could this be the thermosat.It has been like this for a month.It happens when nobody else is in the house so it not to do with someone turning the tap on downstairs.
Could somebody help with our enquiry?.

try it with the showerhead off is it still going hot/cold ?

If you live in a hard water area, it will be the heater element can scaled up.

Do seco's test first though

have checked all the stopcocks or isolation valves are fully open ?

where will you find the stop cock or isolation value for the shower.Is it the same as for the water?.My husband didn"t know either.

if you don't know where they are then they wouldn't of been closed and not fully opened.

have you had the cover off the shower at all ?

Poor electrical connection, faulty thermostat etc.
