Shower Plughole

I have a flat shower plughole and would like to know if I can lift out the central circle to clean it, please?

In our previous house I was able to do this but it may have been because it was a new shower unit.

In the first pic the inner ring is the removable bit. It unscrews.

It is a waste (flush-grated waste to be precise), not a plughole. There is no 'hole' for a 'plug'.
