Shower scalds when showerhead is raised - Mira 88

Hello people

hopefully somebody can please advise me?

I have been living in my house for 5 years and apart from my Mira 88 mixer shower always having had weak pressure, (hot tank and cold mains fed with no additional pump) it has never been a problem.

Recently, with no other taps running in the house, it has started putting out scalding hot water when the shower head is raised over 5feet high and goes back to normal temperature when lowered back below 5 feet high.
The cold is a good strong mains fed pressure and the hot tank is in the airing cupboard next to the shower room.

It has never done this before its recent happenings and we have had nothing done plumbing-wise in the 5 years. All the taps work fine, it seems just this problem of getting hotter as the shower head is raised and goin back to normal between waist and shoulder height.

Can anybody please advise me?

Are you sure the cold is mains fed?

Are the rest of the taps in the house working fine?

Hi, no, I'm not sure, just a guess really as the sink next to the shower is really powerfull when the cold tap is turned so I guessed they would be from the same feed. All the rest of the taps are fine though.

Sounds like the tap (at least the shower) is gravity fed - many ways of checking. Either plug the outlet from the cold water tank if there's not a service tap, or turn off the mains. This will clarify the position.

If gravity fed, you may have a partial airlock in the pipework - see the wiki to find out how to clear it.

I presume this is the sponge and carrier bag? I guess the idea is it forces the stronger pressure of water back up the airlocked supply to force the air out?

I will give it a go and report back

Thanks for the help.

I did not use a sponge and bag but just sealed the showerhead holes with the palm of my hand. Took several goes and its still only about 90% sorted but its good enough for now.
