HI,

Can I sign off a central heating system with corgi if I only wire it with a temp lead to commision it ( dont have part P) until the electrictian wires it ??
The house is getting a rewire & the guy wants his electrician to do it

r u saying the electrican has left you a temp supply unitil he gets back , to enable you to commission the appliance .


Then thats ok , i would have thought .


make sure you use a 3amp fuse in plug .

And I would disagree with Arf.

You need to check the operation of the appliance after it is fully electrically connected, sparkies have a very limited knowledge of how boilers should work.

From a fundamental viewpoint, there is no provision under building regulations for temporary anything afaik.

do it all , i dont think that if the sparky provides a perment socket supply for use with plug that the appliance would have to be recommissioned if he/she were to simply unplug it and then plug it back in . can`t say i`ve seen that in any book before , what if the customer has had a power cut , do they have to ring a corgi fitter before they can turn the boiler on !

Arf, what I'm saying is if the spark leaves a temporary supply, prior to completing the system controls etc, you cannot guarantee it is correct without checking the operation of the controls.

You cannot expect the spark to know how you intend the system to work or why.

The controls etc form part of the commissioning untill they are complete you cannot sign it off.

There are no allowances in Part P for temporary. It is either to standard or not, end of story.

Why would you say that arf.

You cannot expect the spark to run the system up and perform the checks, on the motorised valves, room and cylinder stats, boiler interlock, frost stat and god knows what else, that is the installers job.

And when its all up and running who explains to the customer how it all works, the carpet fitter
