hi,I have a utility room attached to the side of the house which is of single brick, is there anything I can do to prevent damp and black spots appearing
on the inside of the wall which is rendered,thanks for any advice. mike.
 
Yes, you can improve greatly by adding insulation and building another 'skin'.

The downside is you will lose space (unless done externally) and empty your wallet.

Don't forget the roof and floor. Add mechanical ventilation.
