Hi,
Is it possible to build a single skin bay window and still meet building regs for energy/ thermal etc?

I’ve got a soil
Pipe running along my foundations but can’t move it backwards or forwards without the chance of it causing a blockage in the future, I can’t move my walls forward or backwards due to the location and my plans … just wondered if there is a way to do a single skin and insulate the outside or inside to get regs but also not causing a headache with damp?
Thanks
Jake

Yes.

As a bay window is not structural, the lintel is at the top or in the case of the 1930's bays absent - these just went ground to roof with the double stacked bays, you can achive a u value with any type of construction.

But surely building control would want some sort of foundation for any sort of wall, and by virtue of it being a foundation it will be loading the pipe below it and therefore that will want dealing with.

Do you need a bay or will a bow window do?

It should be possible to bridge the pipeline by dropping founds either side and using PCC lintels.

If it's a shared pipe then you'll need a buildover agreement

Hi woody,
Yea we need a bay as we are needing the extra space in the living room… I was hoping to build next to the pope instead of over it

I’ll take a photo a bit later on
Thanks
Jake
