I have a 1900s brick terrace, painted peddle dash (before me), with a single skin section under the front bay window.
It's cracked, the airbricks need moving as they are below pavement level, the bricks are all spalled, it's only about 5ft wide, thinking of propping up the PVC window and rebuilding the single skin wall underneath. (it's only ground floor bay so it's not supporting more than the window)
We get condensation on the inside and I'd like to add some insulation.

As it will need rendering and painting to match, would you either use solid concrete block and add some internal insulation, either batten and insulate or use foam backed plasterboard? OR would you use Thermalite / aerated block and have the headache of trying to render it on the outside.

Have you considered timber frame or SIPS? It going to be rendered anyway.

I think also this work requires building control.

Does it need to be rendered? Some suitable facing bricks may not look out of place.

Is your description of single skin correct ie 100mm?

Pics? If they are uPVC windows & no brick or timber posts supporting the bay roof then you might want to think about propping the roof and removing the windows- be a lot easier then to get some proper founds in & put a cavity wall in if you have the room.

certainly what is supporting the bay roof is important....
