Single storey mansard roof - support?

Hi there

We are putting a single storey extension on the front of a house and were wondering which is the best way to construct the roof. The roof has a sloping part to the front connecting to a flat roof area. I have attached a simple detail below. Will trusses do the job or do we need a steel to support the rafters and flat roof joists?

Any advice would be much appreciated to save on engineer's fees.

Sorry I didnt know how to upload the image.

There is a gable either side if a beam is needed to support the timbers but trusses seam alot easier although i am unsure whether they are possible.
